Milhouse Interns Win Big!

May 24, 2017

Milhouse makes it a point to maintain a quality team of highly talented individuals. We take pride in our full time staff and contractors, and our interns are exceptional in their performance as well. Milhouse intern, Yousef Dana, a student in the University of Illinois at Chicago‘s (UIC) Civil & Materials Engineering program, won 1st place at The Engineering Expo in the category of Civil Engineering and 2nd  place overall!

The Engineering Expo is an annual event that features engineering student’s senior design/capstone projects. Hosted by UIC, the competition highlights civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and bio engineering students. Each team of students has a semester to design a project relating to their study.

The expo featured 130 projects from over 500 students. Yousef’s team was able to excel to second place with their Grant Park Reef Trial project. The project aimed to renovate Monroe Harbor to make the existing trail safe and attractive for runners, walkers, bicyclist, and tourists looking to journey along Lake Michigan.

“I used all of the skills I learned from this [Milhouse] internship and applied it to this project,” said Yousef. “I really believe that the knowledge I gained in transportation geometrics, MicroStation, and overall project development really allowed this project to win 2nd place.”

He has received other recognitions, including the Transportation Engineers-Illinois Section “Undergraduate Scholarship Award”, and placing 4th overall in the Great Lakes Student Conference Civil Engineering-based competition with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) UIC team.

Yousef will continue to sharpen his skills in Civil Engineering as he begins his Summer Internship with Milhouse!
