Milhouse Delivers Soccer Shoes and Gear to Children in Nigeria

“For the children of Nigeria, soccer is more than a sport. Thousands of children play daily, many of whom have never played in soccer shoes,” said Dawn Milhouse, Co-Founder of Milhouse Charities. In response, Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc. and Milhouse Charities hosted its 2nd Annual Soccer Shoe Drive, collecting 150 soccer shoes, several soccer balls, and jerseys for the children of the Awhum local community in Enugu State, Nigeria.

On Thanksgiving Day, nearly 1000 community members, from ten villages, gathered to take part in the joyous occasion. Wilbur C. Milhouse III, President/CEO of Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc., presented the soccer gear to Igwe Charles Ugwu, Chief of the Awhum community. In celebration of the generous contributions the community planned a ceremony of appreciation. With various performances, singing, drums, and dancing, the remainder of the afternoon was filled with joy, pride, and alliance.

Milhouse’s vision is to improve communities around the world so, “it brings me great joy to be a part of a company that stands by its commitment,” said Frank Martin, Vice President, Power Development. “Being able to positively impact youth and a community half way around the globe is an amazing feeling and fulfilling task.”

Established in 2012, Milhouse Charities supports STEM based programs for youth, high school and university students around the globe. In addition to the Soccer Shoe Drive, Milhouse Charities and Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc. work hand in hand to support other initiatives, such as MATHCOUNTS®, CANstruction, Best Buddies Illinois, After School Matters and other various community organizations.
