Black Creativity at MSI Chicago

The Museum of Science and Industry’s annual Black Creativity program, coinciding with Black History Month, invites students, teachers, families and the public to explore the legacy of rich contributions and achievements made by African Americans while encouraging deeper interest in science, technology, engineering and medicine. Black Creativity offers a wide range of targeted, culturally relevant STEM education programming supported by the Museum’s Welcome to Science Initiative. This year, the focus is innovation and inspiring children to become innovators of tomorrow.

Black Creativity programs and exhibits reach over 10,000 students, their teachers, and their families in underserved Chicago neighborhoods each year. The programs four main goals include:

• Provide exposure for African-American youth to careers, educational pathways, and other opportunities in science technology, engineering and medicine
• Deepen students’ engagement with STEAM through hands-on learning
• Increase access to MSI and its resources to African-Americana students and their families
• Showcase African Americans and their contributions, past and current, to the fields of science, technology, engineering and medicine
