Lead Tunnel Design and Engineering – Terminal Area Plan

This project included designing an underground tunnel system to convey passengers, baggage, and utilities. The tunnel connects the future O’Hare Global Terminal with Satellites 1 and 2 and was designed to accommodate the westward extension to Satellites 3 and 4 and the western parking facility.

Milhouse was responsible for the following:
» Designing site utility infrastructure
» Base mapping of existing topography and utilities
» Supporting the H&R Plant option recommendations and cost-benefit analysis
» Facility MEP utility design

The site utility infrastructure design included:
» Natural gas
» Electrical power
» Sanitary sewer
» Domestic water/fire protection
» Airfield lighting
» Roadway lighting
» Campus connectivity
» Fiber Optic Transmission System (FOTS) that supports airfield facilities

Additional tasks for this project entailed site civil utility design and structural support for a roadway tunnel under Taxiways K and L to facilitate vehicle traffic accessing the Terminal Area Plan (TAP) area.

Milhouse also provided Site Civil and MEP facility design support for the Western Land Reserve Area Advance Planning, assessing future development needs.
