Milhouse Construction, Inc. and ICI Partner Again for Multiple Walmart Store Remodels
Milhouse Construction, Inc. and (ICI) have partnered once again to complete two Walmart store remodels in Chicago (Chatham and Pullman). Our partnership has a proven history with Walmart due to our team successfully building the Walmart Pullman store from the ground up in 2012.
Milhouse and ICI were in the general contractor role, providing project management and general contracting services for the dramatic 20,566 SF remodel of the Chicago Chatham store, updating it to the latest Walmart prototype. Milhouse also performed the carpentry scope of work for both stores. Their team hung over 400 sheets of drywall in one day in order to keep the project on schedule.
The Chatham store was designed with innovations which include in-store pickup, delivery, and touch-free pay. The project also included the addition of a full service 6,800 SF Walmart Health Center and Clinic, the first of two clinics for Walmart in Chicago. The health center partners with local medical practices to bring primary medical, dental, and vision services to this underserved community. The clinic was built out within 7,500 SF of sales floor space within the existing store.
The Milhouse team also worked with a community consultant to lead a community involvement plan focused on hiring African American and Chatham community contractors. This initiative included hosting a public outreach event in August, meeting with minority businesses and community residents, and holding on-site interviews for open positions. The plan was successful in achieving two community hires, an apprentice hire, and maintaining the goal of having at least a 40% minority workforce throughout.
Walmart has been a client of ICI’s for over 15 years. During that time, ICI has completed more than 75 projects and is excited to share that experience with Milhouse as they continue in the general contracting role with Walmart for multiple remodeling projects in 2021.
