Milhouse provided construction management services as part of the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program. Milhouse was responsible for design and drainage plans, maintenance of traffic, electrical design, and lighting of underpasses affected by a rail-to-rail flyover carrying the Metra Rock Island line over the Norfolk-Southern/Amtrak line.
Work on the project included the construction of bridges to accommodate three tracks that carry Metra’s operations over the four tracks of the Norfolk-Southern line, as well as design plans for a future fifth track for a high speed intercity passenger rail system with connections to the east and/or south. Due to the flyover crossing the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94), coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation was required to construct piers for the flyover.
Milhouse was responsible for construction management onsite, including field observations, documentation, and resolution of construction-related issues.
