Congratulations, Wilbur !

Wilbur Milhouse III will be honored with the Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Citizen Engineer of the Year Award. The IL-ASCE 2016 Annual Awards Dinner Gala and Centennial Celebration takes place Thursday, October 13 in Chicago at the InterContinental Hotel.

This award recognizes professional accomplishments and unique contributions to the civil engineering profession or community.  These criteria were included in the selection process:

• Improving the conditions under which engineers serve in private practice
• Serving in civic and humanitarian activities
• Providing professional guidance to future and junior civil engineers

An accomplished entrepreneur, Wilbur is the founder and president/CEO of Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc., established in 2001. With 24 years of diversified experience in civil and structural engineering, Wilbur furthers the growth of Milhouse through mentorship and camaraderie of its staff.

Milhouse’s reach in communities in Chicago and abroad is immense. Wilbur realizes the firm’s vision through innovative engineering and extensive community engagement through Milhouse Charities, its philanthropic arm. Milhouse Charities actively promotes its work to support education in the STEM fields and to bring young people into the engineering and power professions.

In addition, the firm and its employees spend their time and funds to support charities ranging from Special Olympics Illinois with the annual O’Hare Plane Pull, to The Greater Chicago Food Depository Canstruction Chicago event, and White Sox Charities and its various fundraisers. Moreover, Milhouse International, a related company Wilbur leads, is working with the government of Nigeria to help provide power to the University of Nigeria at Nsukka as part of Power Africa, an initiative of the Obama Administration to provide stable electricity in the region.
