Dr. Dawn Milhouse Recognized as a ‘Notable Black Leader’ by Crain’s Chicago Business
Executive Director/Co-Founder of Milhouse Charities Honored for Contributions to Community and Purpose
CHICAGO, IL (September 23, 2024) – Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. (Milhouse) proudly announces that Dr. Dawn Milhouse, executive director and co-founder of Milhouse Charities, has been named one of Crain’s Chicago Business 2024 Notable Black Leaders. This recognition highlights distinguished executives who have made significant, lasting contributions to their organizations and communities.
Leading with purpose and passion, Dr. Milhouse amplifies the Milhouse Family of Companies’ commitment to making a positive impact and creating diverse and meaningful team member engagements with community-based service projects, logging over 12,000 volunteer hours and investing over $1 million into S.T.E.M. programs to date, from grassroots programs through the university level.
Dr. Milhouse’s leadership has led to collaborative partnerships with Project Syncere (Illinois) and iCan Girls in Engineering (Georgia), introduced girls to careers in construction with Polished Pebbles Pink Hard Hat Project (Illinois), Ida B. Wells Prep School, and supported the mission of the Kerry K Foundation by donating shoes to children in Ghana. Beyond Milhouse Charities, she actively contributes by serving on the boards of various organizations, including Polished Pebbles, NecTr Community Athletics, Rae of Light Foundation, and Chi Gives Back (advisory).
Through Dr. Milhouse’s strong foundation in community and service, she prioritizes the importance of each partner’s mission and work, dedicating time to donors, volunteers, and community partners to build meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships. Connecting each partner’s unique mission and strengths, she strives to cultivate a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and active stakeholder engagement. This approach reinforces a shared commitment to advancing the futures of Black and Brown students.
Dr. Milhouse is a recipient of Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Leader in Philanthropy, the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Biden, the Community Builder Award from The Onni Group/Chicago News Weekly, and the Chicago Defender Woman of Excellence.
