Joseph Zurad Named a 2023 ‘Notable Leader in Sustainability’ by Crain’s Chicago Business 

Chief Operating Officer of Chicagoland-based engineering firm recognized for sustainability efforts 

CHICAGO, IL (July 17, 2023) – Crain’s Chicago Business named Joseph Zurad to its 2023 Notable Leaders in Sustainability list. This list recognizes top Chicago area sustainability leaders that have made a measurable environmental impact and significant contributions to sustainability. As Milhouse’s chief operating officer of production and delivery, Zurad is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of approximately 400 active projects that prioritize sustainability. 

As a professional engineer, Zurad’s sustainability work ranges from designing housing units and office buildings that reduce energy consumption, creating clean initiatives at wastewater treatment plants, water retention efforts, and publishing works that advise others on reducing energy consumption. Additionally, Zurad is a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – Power and Energy Society (IEEE – PES), a non-profit organization with the mission to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society. 

Zurad’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond environmental impact and into social sustainability. As a board member for Milhouse Charities—a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the exposure and advancement of underserved youth in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)—Zurad participates in programs that range from mentoring future engineering leaders to installing a water well in Nigeria.
