Vice President of People & Culture and Operational Excellence at Chicagoland-based engineering firm honored for exceptional commitment in DEI for second year in a row 

CHICAGO, IL (October 2, 2023) – Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. is thrilled to announce that Maryam Brown, vice president of people & culture and operational excellence, has been recognized as a 2023 Notable Leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) by Crain’s Chicago Business for the second consecutive year. This accolade is awarded to outstanding senior leaders who have made significant contributions to advancing equality within their organizations and the Chicagoland area. 

Over the past year, Brown has consistently ensured that business initiatives are not only sustainable but also deliver efficient, value-added impacts for the organization. Her focus on fostering a culture of discipline that embraces process improvements has supported the entire Milhouse family of companies which is made up of seven companies striving for collaboration and growth. Under Brown’s leadership, Milhouse has launched numerous initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing the organization’s culture through collaboration, team engagement, and communication. Under her guidance, Milhouse developed a communication portal that provides team members with pathways to explore, learn, and experience the Milhouse culture. These programs include interactive, collaborative activities, social squads that facilitate learning and growth, and a dedicated committee that engages with leadership and team members on key DEI-related topics. This approach to DEI has proven to be key in team members’ ability to deliver Milhouse’s vision, whether in the field, embedded in client locations, or in a regional office. 

Besides the commitment and contributions she gives to Milhouse, Brown also dedicates her time and efforts to Milhouse Charities, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to advancing the exposure and advancement of underrepresented youth in STEM fields. Brown has also served as a board member for nine years with the Chicago Board for Education and has remained an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® for 26 years.
