Challenge: Significant corrosion concerns on a 42” Steel High-Pressure (STHP) gas main and its redundant counterpart, compromising pipeline integrity.
Solution: Milhouse Engineering & Construction executed a full-scale replacement of the large-diameter gas main in place, incorporating a customized cathodic protection system tailored to the specific environmental and operational conditions.
Result: Enhanced pipeline safety and reliability by eliminating potential weak points, ensuring the dual gas mains operate efficiently and securely.
Milhouse provided comprehensive engineering services for the 42” STHP design connecting the Mohamet #1 and Mohamet #2 lines on both sides of the Cal-Sag Channel in Calumet, IL. The project involved coordinating a detailed site survey to accurately assess the conditions and identify optimal locations for the gas main replacement. By carefully analyzing records and environmental factors, such as wetlands, floodplains, and buffer zones, Milhouse designed a solution that minimized environmental impact. Collaboration with the corrosion protection team ensured the integration of project-specific cathodic protection within the ComEd right-of-way, safeguarding the integrity of the new pipeline.
