CPS Prosser High School FY23 MEP EOR Services

Challenge: Replacing a 100-year-old AHU system with pneumatic controls with a modern packaged AHU system with DDC controls while maintaining the building’s structural supports.

Solution: Work on dismantling the AHUs section by section, from coils, fans, filters, and dampers so that the old unit can be removed quickly and efficiently.

Result: The new AHU had packaged units with all components integral to it, with a more compact design and smaller equipment footprint. The equipment is easier to maintain as the building engineer can determine how the equipment operates through the BAS system and make necessary adjustments.

The scope of work includes large-scale MEP upgrades to 1918, 1958, 1974, and CTE buildings. The existing system at the school was a steam boiler with heat exchangers that converted steam to hot water to supply installation. There was no infrastructure in place to have cooling in the 1918 building. The entire system (including boilers and piping) was removed and replaced with a new hot water boiler heating system. In addition, provisions were made to the piping and pumping system to allow for a future chiller so the school can be equipped with a primary cooling system. Also, existing 100-year-old air handling units were removed and replaced with new packaged AHUs with modern technology.

Nonfunctional electrical cooling/heating rooftop units were replaced with new gas-fired heating and DX cooling units. Miscellaneous exhaust fan upgrades to kitchen systems were replaced. Plumbing upgrades include providing new hot water heaters for the facility, replacing sump pumps and sewage pumps, and replacing old and corroded domestic water piping. Electrical upgrades include new electrical systems to
accommodate HVAC and plumbing, as well as providing upgrades to lighting systems. Architectural and Structural upgrades were made to accommodate MEP work.
