The University of Chicago Medical Center’s Cummings Life Science Center is a twelve-story 162,000 sq. ft. mixed-use building with laboratory facilities, offices, and a full basement.
Milhouse was responsible for designing a new emergency generator to power the fire pump, elevators, and all other life safety devices, such as exit signs, emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems for this facility.
The new emergency generator was sized with the capacity to handle the life safety systems of two additional adjacent buildings, the MRI Facility and the Kovler Laboratory.
Milhouse was also responsible for construction management services, including integrating the existing electrical system and commissioning the proposed emergency generator system.
