Navy Pier – Polk Bros. Park Phase 2

Navy Pier is the modern centerpiece of Chicago’s priceless lakefront- a tourist magnet, a great legacy of the City’s past, and harbinger of its future.

Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. was honored to be a key member of the team chosen to re-develop a portion of the Navy Pier complex, the southern portion of Polk Brothers Park. The redevelopment will include:

  • An outdoor concert venue with 2 stages, bleachers and a sloping lawn seating area
  • A new streetscape with bike path
  • A new boathouse to replace the existing structure
  • Relocation of the access road to the Chicago River lock

As the civil engineer for the project, Milhouse was responsible for grading and drainage, structure demolition, site utilities, streets and pavement, erosion control, and environmental features. The innovative design includes bio-infiltration facilities and filter strips to control stormwater and eliminates the need for costly underground stormwater detention.
