Challenge: Designing a zero-carbon all-electric facility with innovative MEP solutions
Solution: Effective design team collaboration
Result: Exceed ASHRAE goals
Milhouse provided mechanical and electrical engineering services related to the design and construction of a new park pavilion located in the Southern end of Battery Park City, NYC.
This park pavilion is part of an overall site improvement that included site lighting and replacing the existing park pavilion. The building was designed to comply with the latest sustainable initiatives that included a zero carbon all-electric facility with an overall building energy compliance efficiency exceeding ASHRAE. The systems utilized high-efficiency lighting, demand control ventilation, and recovery systems, as well as variable refrigerant heat pumps to meet the overall energy utilization goals.
In January 2024, the project received WEDG (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines) Verification. WEDG is the gold standard for waterfront design, recognizing excellence in resilient, ecological, and accessible waterfront projects. The project is the 13th nationally to earn this prestigious certification.
