In the last 10 years, the University of Illinois has climbed from the bottom of the Big Ten to the top in energy reduction. Since 2008, the university has seen a 28 percent reduction in energy usage in campus buildings.
These results were achieved with efforts including Retro-Commissioning, energy performance contracting, lighting retrofits, and energy grants. The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign conducted an energy performance audit at its Engineering Campus. Buildings on the Engineering Campus include the Engineering Sciences Building, the Superconductivity Center, and the Loomis Laboratory. The energy performance contract developed a comprehensive set of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and distributed generation measures that guarantee savings.
Milhouse was selected to provide electrical engineering design services for the three engineering buildings, as well as mechanical design services for Loomis Laboratory. The design included the replacement of air handling units, replacement of supply fans, and replacement of existing fume hoods exhaust fans.
