Owners of Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. recognized as top Chicago area construction executives

CHICAGO, IL (May 2, 2022) – Crain’s Chicago Business has named two owners of Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. (Milhouse)—Wilbur C. Milhouse III, Chairman and CEO, and Dolla Dawson, Chief Operating Officer—to its list of Notable Executives of Color in Construction and Commercial Real Estate 2022. The list recognizes top Chicago area construction and commercial real estate executives based on their success and accomplishments during the last 18 months, both in the construction industry and for the advancement of people of color.

Wilbur is an award-winning entrepreneur who transformed 30 years of civil and structural engineering experience into a global enterprise. Founded by Wilbur in 2001, Milhouse has now grown to become the largest African-American owned engineering and construction firm in the country, with nearly 500 team members serving 3 countries and 12 industries.

Dolla joined Milhouse as Marketing Director in 2007. Within a year, she became Vice President of Business Operations. Today, she holds the role of Chief Operating Officer, where she is responsible for aligning the organization’s strategic vision, cascading it to all team members, and steering the firm’s core business functions.

Both Wilbur and Dolla demonstrate a commitment to advancing opportunities for people of color, both inside and outside of the Milhouse family of companies. In 2012, Wilbur co-founded Milhouse Charities, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to advancing the exposure and advancement of underrepresented youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Dolla serves on the board of Milhouse Charities and works on Polished Pebbles’ Pink Hard Hats program, an initiative that addresses the workforce needs of Chicago’s African-American and Latina girls and the existing barriers to girls and women of color in the trades, manufacturing and construction industries.
