143rd & Ridgeland Intersection Improvements

Challenge: Evaluate various intersections for safety improvements as part of the Highway Safety Improvement Program.

Solution: Recommended various countermeasures to reduce common crash types and improve overall intersection safety.

Result: Reduction in accidents and improved safety for both pedestrians and drivers.

Milhouse is leading a team of consultants providing Phase I Preliminary Engineering Services for various roadway and bridge projects. Core services for these locations included:

The Milhouse team provided multiple improvements, which included new mast arms with one signal head per lane, additional left-turn offset/channelization to improve each leg, new lighting, advanced warning signs, illuminated street signs, highly reflective pavement markings, and ADA ramps.

Other improvements included larger 12” LED lenses with visors, reflective back plating at each leg, and pedestrian countdown timers and pushbuttons at crosswalk terminals. Intersections included:
