95th Street CTA Station Improvement

Challenge: Facilitate a major rehab and expansion of one of CTA’s principal terminals, built in the middle of a major expressway.

Solution: Employ an alternative project delivery method (Design-Build) and retain a great team

Result: Project was completed on schedule and on budget

The 95th Street Station is the cornerstone of CTA’s rapid transit system on the south side of Chicago. The project involved the rehabilitation of the North Terminal and the construction of a new South Terminal. After several attempts to move the project forward with other teams and delivery methods, the CTA employed a Design-Build project delivery approach and retained the Joint Venture team of F.H Paschen and Milhouse. In the design phase, Milhouse was responsible for the following:

  • The 95th Street vehicular bridge
  • The north and south bus bridges
  • New retaining walls
  • Bus turnarounds
  • Stormwater detention
  • Other site work

During construction, Milhouse managed trades, quality assurance, and community outreach/engagement.
