Challenge: Replace a major gas supply main in one of the country’s most congested locations – the heart of Chicago’s Loop.
Solution: Careful pre-design reconnaissance, exhaustive coordination with multiple agencies and a great set of plans.
Result: No drama; no excitement; no mess. In and out on-schedule and on-budget; hardly anyone noticed.
Milhouse was retained by PGL to design one of their more challenging public improvement projects, the replacement for a 20” supply main in Chicago’s Monroe St., from Michigan Ave. to Wells St.
The route transected the “Loop’s” commercial and financial districts. The corridor is filled with every imaginable type of mission critical utility line, some dating back almost 100 yrs.
The design documents identified and located the underground network and presented highly complex and detailed installation plan and profile sheets.
They also included an 11-stage maintenance-of-traffic plan that had been thoroughly coordinated with CDOT, as well as detailed plans for street restoration to meet CDOT’s exacting requirements.
